| Entrance |
| You may enter the library from the north or the south side of the building. The main lobby of the library is a popular place to study and socialize. A public lounge is available on the northwest side of the lobby where soft drink machines, snack machines, and supplies are available. |

| On the west side of the lobby is a set of double doors and a security gate that leads to the Circulation area. |
| Circulation Desk |
| Present your valid validated ID with the books you wish to borrow. You may also reserve material that is checked out by placing a Hold request at the Circulation Desk. A "Search" request may also be placed for a book that you cannot locate. Also, any materials you have requested through Interlibrary Loan, can be picked up at the circulation desk. |

| Popular Literature/New Books Display |
| Books which provide current reading for students and other patrons are located in the big bookcase next to the Circulation Desk and are available for a two-week checkout. |

| Directly to the southwest of the circulation desk is the Rio Grande Valley Special Collection. |
| Special Collections and Lower Rio Grande Valley Historical Collection |
| Special Collections includes a collection of books and other materials pertaining to South Texas and Northeast Mexico including UTPA Archives, selected county records, rare books and the Bryant Collection |

| Library Instruction Classrooms |
| Classes are offered throughout the school year on proper research methods and the use of library materials, including government documents, books, journals, and Internet sources. Instructional sessions may be scheduled for specific courses and will be geared toward the needs of that class. The form to schedule your class for library instruction is available online. |

| Interlibrary Loan |
| The InterLibrary Loan Office is located just to the north of the
elevator. Material not available in this library may be requested through Interlibrary Loan (ILL.) You may fill out a form in the ILL office, at the reference desk, or online. This service is provided only for UTPA faculty, staff, students, and members of the Friends of the Library. Allow two weeks, or more, for arrival of material. |

| Library Archive |
| The Library Archives is across from the Circulation entrance to the southeast side of the lobby, through the Shary Room. This is a collection of archival, or original papers, maps, photographs and other materials from local people and businesses. |

| Shary Room |
| The Shary Room reproduces John H. Shary's original office, and has a collection of photographs and other items from the Shary mansion in Mission. There is a conference table which seats 10 and it can be used as a meeting room. |

| Writing Center |
| Staff in the Writing Center help students organize their materials and write their papers. |
