Many web pages provide good, scholarly, true information. Many do not. There's a lot of garbage on the web, perhaps even more than in regular print media. Some pages provide just the author's opinion, with no facts to back it up. Some pages are just lies, or stuff the author made up. Sometimes web sites are meant to be a joke. Some are full of hearsay, rumor, or unsubstantiated information. Some are generally truthful, but biased, providing just one side of the story. Sometimes web page authors provide this "false" information on purpose; sometimes they don't realize there could be problems with their information.
Articles in scholarly journals are researched and investigated before they are published to ensure accuracy. Some of these print journals and their indexes and databases are then transferred to the web. These web sites are trustworthy.
Most web sites are not trustworthy in the same sense that journal articles are. But their information may still be legitimate. Or perhaps it isn't. Below are examples of a variety of types of web sites. Sometimes the information is true, but biased. Sometimes it is hearsay. Sometimes it is garbage, or stuff the author just made up to be funny. And sometimes it is good, trustworthy information. You have to decide which. And you have to decide whether the information, and the web pages, are valid and should be used in your research.
